Strategy games that don't demand your whole evening

I love strategy games but I don't always have two hours. The mobile space has quietly become the best place for tight, self-contained strategic matches you can finish on a commute.

Ironline Command is my current favorite for exactly this reason. Matches run around fifteen minutes and still make you think about supply lines and terrain. It's not dumbed down — it's just compressed.

The trick these games pull is limiting scope. Fewer units, smaller maps, clearer objectives. That focus means every decision carries weight, which is honestly more engaging than sprawling 4X campaigns where half your turns are busywork.

If you're coming from PC strategy, give the touch interface a fair shake. Dragging formation lines feels awkward for the first game and natural by the third.

Look for games with an offline mode. Nothing kills a strategic mood like losing a match to a dropped connection.
